Digital Tickets and NFC - FAQs

Premier League guidance about Digital Ticketing is changing – and we recently contacted all Season Ticket Holders and One Hotspur Members to let them know about small changes they’ll notice as we take steps to remain compliant.

From next season, QR codes will be removed from digital tickets and passes, and we will instead ask fans to scan in using NFC (Near Field Communication).

NFC is already widely used for making contactless payments, including in retail stores, on public transport and within our own stadium. Fans will simply need to tap their ticket against the turnstile reader to enter as normal.

If you’ve got any questions about these changes, please take a read of our FAQs below:

How do I use NFC to enter the stadium?

NFC is already enabled on all of our digital tickets and digital passes – and this is how the majority of fans at our recent games have entered the stadium.

To use NFC to tap in, you simply need to open your digital ticket/pass and hold your phone near the scanner – much like you would for any contactless payment.

How will I know if I've been chosen to participate in an NFC trial?

We’ve emailed all Season Ticket Holders and One Hotspur Members with information about the upcoming changes to digital ticketing, which will see QR codes removed from digital tickets and passes.

This change will come into effect next season, with a number of small trials due to be carried out between now and the end of the current season. We’ll contact any supporters included in these trials directly to let them know, and to provide additional support if required.

Does my phone have NFC?

All iPhone models from the iPhone 6 onwards automatically support NFC, while Android users can check by going to their device settings and searching for ‘NFC’.

If your digital pass currently shows an option to ‘Hold Near Reader’, your phone should support NFC technology.

I've got a phone which doesn't support NFC

If you’ve got an Android which doesn’t support NFC, you’ll be able to scan in at the turnstiles using your rotating QR code – accessible by tapping ‘Show Code’. Please note that rotating QR codes can’t be screengrabbed and shared.

If you have an iPhone which doesn’t support NFC, you’ll have the option of request a Stadium Photo ID Card.

I use a Stadium Photo ID Card

If you already use a Stadium Photo ID Card, nothing will change for you when these changes come into effect. You can continue to access the stadium using your card as normal.

Do I need to do anything different on a matchday?

If you already use NFC to tap your ticket at the turnstiles, nothing will change for you when these changes come into effect. Simply continue to tap your ticket to enter the turnstiles at normal. Similarly, if you currently use a Stadium Photo ID Card, you will still be able to use that as normal.

If you normally scan a QR code at the turnstiles, you will notice a slight change. iPhone users will not have a QR code to scan – you will instead need to tap your ticket via NFC.

Android users will also be encouraged to tap in via NFC, but will also have the option of scanning their rotating QR code.

We’ll be updating signage around the stadium and giving turnstile/scanner operators additional training to support you if you require help on a matchday.

Will you still be carrying out perimeter ticket checks?

Yes. When these changes come into effect, you will still be asked to scan your ticket twice on a matchday - once at the perimeter and once at the turnstiles. NFC tickets can be tapped on both our PDA scanners at our perimeter checks and the stadium turnstiles.

I require assistance scanning my ticket on a matchday

NFC is widely used for contactless payments, including in retail stores and on public transport, and we’re confident that supporters who aren’t already familiar with using it will have no problems tapping in on matchdays.

We’ll be updating signage around the stadium ahead of next season’s rollout to remind supporters how to use NFC. We’re also giving our turnstile/scanner operators additional training to support you if you require assistance tapping your ticket in. If you’re not sure what to do on a matchday, please don’t hesitate to ask for help.

How do I scan multiple tickets using NFC?

The process will work much the same way it would if you already scan multiple tickets at the turnstiles on matchday – eg. if you’ve purchased Guest tickets. Simply open each ticket in your digital wallet and tap each one against the scanner.

Do I need to download my pass again?

No, there’s no action you need to take with your pass. Once this change is rolled out, all Season Ticket Holder and One Hotspur Member passes will update automatically.

I require further support
